Brian Tracy’s Change Your Thinking Change Your Life is a very good motivational book. There is some information that is unnecessary, but overall, the book has a very good message. It is a delightful book to read and can be easily revisited when you need a “motivational boost”.

In this book, Brian mentions several laws of success which are very interesting and can be useful in life. They can be found in this website and are summarised below:

The Law of Substitution says that…

“Your mind can only hold one thought at a time, positive or negative, you can substitute a positive thought for a negative thought whenever you choose.”

The Law of Habit says that…

“Any thought or acion that you repeat over and over again will eventually become a new habit.”

The Law of Emotion says…

“A stronger emotion will dominate and override a weaker emotion, and whiever emotion you concentrate on grows and becomes stronger.”

The Law of Attraction says that…

“You are a ‘living magnet’ and that you inevitably attract the people and circumstance into your life that harmonize with your dominant thoughts, especially those thought that you emotionalize strongly.”

The Law of Expectations says that…

“Whatever you expect, with confidence, becomes your self-fulfilling prophecy.”

The Law of Correspondence says that…

“Your outer world corresponds to your inner world.”

The Law of Cause and Effect says that…

“For everything you want, there is a price that must be paid.”

The Law of Sowing and Reaping says that…

“You have to put in before you get out. You have to give before you receive.”

The Law of Belief says that…

“Whatever you believe, with feeling, becomes your reality.”

The Law of Compensation says that…

“You get our what you put in, and the more you put in, the more you get out.”

The Law of Reversability says that…

“You can develop within yourself the values, beliefs, and qualitites you most admire by acting as if you already had them.”

The first law of reaping and sowing is you always reap what you sow. The second law is you always reap more than you sow. You don’t see the end results and consequences at first. They are hidden from you. Another law is the most important, you reap in a different season than you sow. You don’t reap when you sow. You reap after you sow. It may come when you least expect it. If not careful, you may be overwhelmed when the time for harvest begins. You may even find yourself drowning in what you have sown if you you planted too much in the beginning of the season.

That’s when you hear the whining. Well whose fault is it? Who planted the weeds?

Every action has a predictable consequence. If I sow corn, I’ll get corn, not potatoes. If I sow radishes, I’ll get radishes, not squash. If I sow beans, I’ll get beans, not watermelons. It also works the same way in the spiritual realm. If I sow (give away) life to others, I will reap life myself. If I sow provision for others, I will reap provision for myself. If I sow forgiveness toward others, I’ll reap forgiveness for myself.

The law of sowing and reaping always works, and it always works the same way for everyone. If you sow bad things, you reap bad things.

There is a very human fear, namely, that if I give anything away, I won’t have anything left for myself. However just the opposite is true. Give the very thing you need, and you will get more. Not only will you have enough for yourself, but the more you give, the more you’ll be given. The bigger the sowing, the bigger the reaping.

Any farmer knows that. If you want a small crop, you sow just a little seed. If you want a big crop, you sow a lot of seed.

Many people are deceived about sowing and reaping. It has to do with a lapse in time between the sowing and the reaping. For example, some people sow the sinful deeds of death and then, because they don’t see the immediate consequences, they come to the conclusion that they got away with something. But sooner or later, the law of sowing and reaping will work, because it always works the same way for everyone. Sowing the sinful deeds of death will eventually and inevitably bring a reaping of death and destruction. Violent people reap violence. Unfaithful people reap unfaithfulness. Bitter people reap bitterness. Selfish people reap selfishness. It’s a law, like gravity.

But the deception also works on the other side, with sowing good seed, righteous seed, the seed of generosity and good works. How so? We can sometimes be deceived into thinking that, just because we don’t see immediate results, that the law of sowing and reaping doesn’t work. God promised that if I would give, it would be given to me. But there may be a significant lapse of time between the sowing and the reaping.

What we need to understand is that God’s invitation to give generously is an invitation to invest in His purposes. And when we invest in the purposes of God, He always pays us back with interest. When you put one grain of wheat into the ground, how many grains do you get back? Well try it. Pick the stock of wheat that grows from that one grain and count the number of grains in that one head of wheat. Let’s say you got twenty back. So what percentage of interest did you gain on your investment? If you’re slow at math, it’s a 2,000 percent interest on your investment. When’s the last time you earned that kind of interest by leaving you money in a personal saving account in your local bank?

An undeniable fact of life is that we can determine our future. Day by day, year by year, we are given the opportunity to invest in our future.
That we reap what we sow is an undeniable, universal law put in place by Mother Nature to reward the diligent or curse the indolent as the case may be.

However, the law doesn’t work in vacuum; there can’t be an increase if no seed is sown. It doesn’t matter how little you can sow at any given time, what matters is that you sow. There is not one person in this world that doesn’t want to be comfortable, but not all men will succeed in the quest for comfort because only few can make the required sacrifice(s). Millionaires worthy of the name understand and employ the law of sowing and reaping to their advantage which explains why they succeed where others fail. Even if you inherit wealth, without constant sowing, the wealth will diminish. This law also applies to our dealings with our fellow men – no deed goes unrewarded as our actions attract the corresponding reward(s). Thus, it’s advisable that you refrain from sowing into other people’s lives anything you cannot pray to reap because you will inevitably reap whatever you sow.

Care must however be taken so as not to sow in vain. You should plant right because a seed yields its kind (You cannot plant cassava and expect to harvest legume; it contradicts the law of sowing and reaping). Also, there’s time apportioned for sowing and reaping respectively (Sowing during the wrong season could be tantamount to not sowing at all). Be informed, watch what you sow.

The little details we often overlook matters. Can you distinguish between an asset and a liability? How much of your earnings do you set aside as savings? Do you invest? Don’t be deceived, there is no exception to the law of sowing and reaping – if you sow bountifully, you will reap bountifully. And if you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly.

Beloved, some things can wait! Deny yourself of some luxuries now so that you can secure a glorious future. The future is now, make hay while the sun shines!
