Within this world, there is a tendency to take and take without making an effort to give anything. It’s called selfishness and greed. How, though, can an individual or a company fight this tendency and benefit from being a giver instead of just a taker?
Just from what I have experienced in a business that I once had, a small one, but nonetheless a profitable one, whenever you as a business owner can give to your customers or employees, you benefit in the long run.
For example, when finishing a job for a customer, I made it my policy to do a little extra for no extra charge. It cost me very little in supplies or time, but customers always seemed to appreciate it.
What benefit came to me from doing that? Sure! They were very apt to comment to their friends that they received a little extra. So, many times, I received more business from the favorable word of mouth advertising while spending virtually nothing extra. It is a simple principle.
This same concept works for larger companies too. Those that apply this idea toward their employees will get more production because of happier employees, and will not spend time training employees due to the low employee turnover.
What type of giving to the employees can they do? They can give product or services to their employees on a regular basis without hurting their bottom line. They can give bonuses depending on how much profit they made. Employee lunches, dinners, Christmas parties are all welcomed and appreciated by the employees that work for them. Result: contented employees; this ultimately translates into more productivity, more productivity means more profits!
Yes indeed! The law of giving and receiving works well in business life as well as personal life.
